Ron Paul’s presidential campaign isn’t about a man who has a sickening desire for power and control. His campaign isn’t just about becoming president. Rather, it is about spreading Libertarian ideals that have not been gaining the momentum they should in the past 50 years.
Dr. Paul’s idols are…
It is now commonplace and politically correct to blame what is referred to as the excesses of capitalism for the economic problems we face, and especially for the Wall Street fraud that dominates the business news. Politicians are having a field day with demagoguing the issue while, of course, failing to address the fraud and deceit found in the budgetary shenanigans of the federal government — for which they are directly responsible. Instead, it gives the Keynesian crowd that runs the show a chance to attack free markets and ignore the issue of sound money.
So once again we hear the chant: “Capitalism has failed; we need more government controls over the entire financial market.” No one asks why the billions that have been spent and thousands of pages of regulations that have been written since the last major attack on capitalism in the 1930s didn’t prevent the fraud and deception of Enron, WorldCom, and Global Crossings. That failure surely couldn’t have come from a dearth of regulations.
What is distinctively absent is any mention that all financial bubbles are saturated with excesses in hype, speculation, debt, greed, fraud, gross errors in investment judgment, carelessness on the part of analysts and investors, huge paper profits, conviction that a new era economy has arrived and, above all else, pie-in-the-sky expectations.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas– 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul remains competitive in the race for the nomination according to a new Reuters/Ipsos Poll.
Paul scores a solid second with 21 percent of the vote, faring better nationally than fellow GOP competitors Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. These latest numbers show Paul gaining on his main competitor nationally, Mitt Romney, whose support seems to be fading with 29 percent. Paul’s support grew by 5 percentage points nationally since January, while Romney has seen a 30 percent decline in his support since January.
“This poll further illustrates that Ron Paul is emerging as the real conservative alternative to Mitt Romney, and that he can also obtain the needed support from Independents and disenfranchised Democrats to defeat President Obama in November.” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton.
This poll follows a January 30th GallupPoll showing Paul within the margin of error of defeating Obama. Also, a January 16th CNN/ORC Poll showed Paul and Obama in a virtual tie in a general election showdown.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas, Feb 03, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential campaign raised more campaign donations from active-duty members of the military than all other presidential candidates combined–Republican or Democrat–according to a Paul campaign internal analysis.A veteran of the Cold War-era, Paul raised more than $150,000 from active military in the fourth quarter. This comes after the Congressman outraised all GOP candidates — including all GOPers combined, and President Obama singularly — in the second and third quarters of last year. Dr. Paul also outraised his GOP competitors in a head-to-head comparison during his 2008 run for the presidency.
Especially notable is that Paul raised about triple the amount Obama received and about six times that of all currently-competing Republicans–Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Buddy Roemer, and Rick Santorum–combined.

Ron Paul 2005: Borrowing, Spending, Counterfeiting
Few Americans truly understand how our Federal Reserve system enables Congress to spend far beyond its means, but the cycle of spending and printing money affects all of us. Simply put, the more money our Treasury prints, the less every dollar is worth. Our pure fiat money system, in place since the last vestiges of a gold standard were eliminated in the early 1970s, has reduced the value of your savings by 80%. Disregard the government’s Consumer Price Index, which substantially underreports price inflation. Monetary inflation is true inflation, and we only need to look at the cost of homes, cars, energy, and medical care to recognize that a dollar buys far less today than ever.
Economist Mark Thornton of the Ludwig von Mises Institute lays out a sobering case against the long-term health of the U.S. dollar. He identifies several facts and trends that bode ill for millions of Americans counting on dollar-denominated assets to fund their retirements.
First, federal debt continues to grow exponentially and shows no sign of abating. Americans were shocked at the notion of a $1 trillion federal debt in 1980; just 25 years later the total approaches $8 trillion. The Bush administration and the current Congress have increased spending at rates unseen since the New Deal and Great Society eras, and single-year deficits now exceed $500 billion. There is zero political will in Washington to curb spending, as evidenced by the shameful transportation bill recently passed by Congress.
